A bronze ‘Dogman’ sculpture worth $25,000 and created by artists Gillie and Marc has been stolen from Oxford Street in Sydney. The ‘paparazzi dog’ sculpture was first displayed on the Paddington street in mid-last year, as part of a partnership with Opus Design, the artists’ gallery assistant said.
The 250kg artwork was allegedly stolen over the Christmas and New Year period, and the gallery believes the robbery would have been conducted by a group of people with a vehicle. The artists have urged any witnesses to come forward and have offered a $10,000 reward for the safe return of the sculpture.
Gilles and Marc are known for their ‘Dogman’ and ‘Rabbitgirl’ sculptures, and also for the ‘Buried Rhino’ sculpture which was displayed on Tamarama Beach last year. Their sculptures have been displayed in Australia and internationally.
